About this position
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing compassionate quality care that is customer and family focused. The RN assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents care of customers according to hospital and care center policies and standards of professional nursing practices. The RN is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered. The RN defines, implements, and improves practice standards and environment of care while promoting exceptional customer care. Duties may vary based on the assigned customer care center which may include differences in the required specific clinical skills. Actively and consistently demonstrates the mission, vision, values and guiding principles of Maple Grove Hospital.
SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Completes the admission process, including but not limited to: admission documentation, medication reconciliation, the identification/ initiation of precautions for high risk patient populations, the securing of valuables/medications, and room orientation. • Provides care for the operative patient: including completion of the pre-operative checklist and the assessment & monitoring of the post-operative patient. • Provide care specific to the orthopedic patient: Total Joint Replacement, Hip fracture, Spine surgery. • Initiates end of life care. This includes: completion of the death record, donor agency notification, care of the family, securing of belongings, and postmortem care. • Recognizes Cardiac, Respiratory, Neurologic, Renal, GI/GU risk factors, monitors for changes in patient status, and seeks out the appropriate interventions by collaborating with ancillary departments and care team members to meet the needs of the patient. • Manages and monitors the indication, use and discontinuation of therapeutic and/or medical equipment (examples: IV/Epidural pumps, nutritional support, cardiac monitor, assistive devices, tubes/drains). • Manages and monitors the diabetic patient through point of care testing /lab results. Administers appropriate diabetic medication/insulin therapies; Assesses and provides individualized diabetic patient education and resources. • In collaboration with the provider and pharmacy, the RN will continually assess and reassess a patient’s pain after initiating pain interventions (pharmacological and non-pharmacological) and modifying the treatment plan as appropriate. • Documents and implements appropriate interventions related to a patient’s identified risk factors: allergies, falls risk, impaired skin integrity/pressure ulcers, and behavioral/elopement risks. • Management of a patient on a medical hold/ suicide precautions and initiates the appropriate application and documentation of medical or behavioral restraints. • Prepares and administers (oral, subcutaneous, topical, IM and IV medications) and completes documentation including the patient’s response and side-effects. • Collaborates with WOC regarding patients requiring a wound VAC, advanced wound care and/or ostomy needs/education. • Individualizes and documents all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format in the medical record.
Requirements
Education
Associate's degree in nursing; bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
Experience
• Minimum of one-year RN experience in a hospital setting preferred. Minimum one-year specialty experience preferred when working in one of the specialty areas of Intensive Care, Emergency Care, Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, NICU, Pediatrics, Operating Room, or PCC/PACU. • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure in high stress situations, acts quickly in response to critical situations. Solid PC skills to include MS applications, Internet, etc. • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information (both in written and oral form), clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience. • Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict in a positive manner. Has an awareness of, responds to, and considers the needs, feelings and capabilities of others. • Ability to be accountable for quality customer service and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations. • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards. • Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English.
Licensure/Certification
• Current licensure and registration as an RN in the State of MN. Current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice required. • Current certification required for the following areas of nursing practice: • Emergency Care Center – ACLS, TNCC, PALS • Intensive Care Center & MSCC Lead – ACLS • L&D – NRP, AWHONN's Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring Course (one time only) - Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experience • NICU– NRP, STABLE (one time) • PCC/PACU/ENDO – ACLS, PALS

Salary Range: MG RN A/B/M ($42.97 - $71.46), based on experience
