Clinic Medical Assistant - $2000 Sign-on Bonus

Sign-on bonus

$2000 sign-on bonus to qualified applicants who agree to a one-year commitment to the role. $1000 will be paid upon hire and $1000 will be paid after six months of employment. If employment is ended prior to the one-year commitment is met, a prorated amount will be required to be paid back. Current team members or those who have been employed by North Memorial Health or Blaze Health in the last six months are not eligible for bonus.

About this position

The Medical Assistant will be certified to manage the customer flow throughout the clinic and assist providers in the management and treatment of their customers, individualizing care to the age of the customer. These customers may include infant, child, adolescent, adult, or geriatric. The Medical Assistant may also provide telephone support and facilitate communication between customers and providers. The Medical Assistant takes direction from the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers.

This position works on-site. Interviews for this position will take place in-person or virtually via Microsoft Teams.

To ensure the highest level of protection from acquiring and transmitting disease, Blaze Health requires all team members to be fully vaccinated for influenza and COVID-19 or have an approved medical or religious exemption from the organization on file as a condition of employment.

Atrium Specialty Clinic
• Completes pre-visit planning to prepare the care team for the customer’s visit.
• May assist with prescription refills under supervision of the provider according to the Clinic Medication Refill Protocol.
• Assists the provider and other members of the customer’s care team in communicating about the customer’s care plan both during and outside of the customer’s clinic visit. Provides assistance in coordination of transportation, surgery scheduling, and other follow-up care as needed.
• Assists in the coordination of follow-up care within the Atrium Specialty Clinic when a customer has been discharged from our provider’s care in the hospital.

Mental Health Services Center
• Completes pre-visit planning to prepare the care team for the customer’s visit.
• May assist with prescription refills under supervision of the provider according to the Clinic Medication Refill Protocol.
• Assists the provider and other members of the customer’s care team in communicating about the customer’s care plan both during and outside of the customer’s clinic visit. Provides assistance in coordination of follow-up care as needed.
• Completes DISCUS testing (department will provide training if needed).

Primary Care
• Addresses health care directives and safety concerns with customer during rooming process.
• May assist with prescription refills under the supervision of the provider according to the Clinic Medication Refill Policy.
• Assists customers via telephone in the clinic Message Center. May collect information and transmit that information to a provider so that the provider can make a decision about customer care. May give the provider’s advice to the customer (however, the CMA cannot perform telephone triage).
• May perform x-ray duties as assigned if individual has passed the x-ray operator exam.

Primary Care and HHH Cancer Center
• Performs clinic laboratory tasks including order processing, specimen collection and processing, and diagnostic testing. Completes annual lab competency testing. Quality control functions include performing calibrations, proficiency testing, and attending in-services with regard to lab changes in procedure and/or equipment.

Infusion Clinic
• Performs prior authorization functions related to rheumatology. This includes contacting insurance companies, specialty pharmacies, and customers.
• Reads, interprets, and documents provider notes regarding prior authorizations.
• Must have a medical understanding of rheumatology and diagnosis codes.

Lead Roles (Urgent Care Only): Additional Accountabilities
• Promotes a professional culture, leading by example.
• Key contributor for maintaining a consistent and effective workflow.
• Serves as preceptor for new team members, properly training them on clinical processes for standardization.
• Serves as “go-to person” and acts as a liaison between Clinic Office Assistants, and providers in the absence of supervisor/manager, answering questions, contacting supervisor/manager for emergencies or complex questions that require immediate answers beyond Lead’s scope of responsibility.

What we’ll expect from you

• Assists provider with care of customers of all age groups.
• Ensures that exam rooms are prepared for exam.
• Follows the standard rooming process when rooming customers: obtains vitals and reconciles medications with customers.
• Performs diagnostic tests including but not limited to EKGs, holter and event monitor set-up, vision and hearing screens, x-rays, nebulizer treatments, peak flows, O2 sats. Communicates outcomes verbally and documents appropriately.
• Notifies customer of test and procedure results under provider direction.
• Gives immunizations, injections, and other medications as directed by provider.
• Performs laboratory specimen collection as needed.
• Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.
• Demonstrates proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list.
• Maintains skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list.
• Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in North Memorial's Corporate Code of Conduct.
• Protects customer and team member privacy and only accesses customer- and/or team member-related information as needed to perform job duties.
• Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.
• Recognizes and complies with legal, regulatory, accrediting, and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility.

Education

• High school graduate or equivalent (e.g., GED) required.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
• Must be certified or pass the certification exam within six months of hire as a condition of continued employment.   

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
• Knowledge of and skill in using computer software applications.

• Previous experience in a clinical setting preferred.
• Passed x-ray operator's examination or willing to take exam according to individual clinic needs.
• Occupational Medicine experience preferred (Only applicable for Occupational Medicine.).
• Travel using personal vehicle to various local worksites is required (Only applicable for Occupational Medicine.).     

Licensure/Certifications Mandatory

• Current BLS Certification (Blaze Health standard).
• Medical Assistant Certification within six months of hire (Blaze Health standard).
• Breath Alcohol Tester Certification - must obtain certification administered by Blaze Health AFTER hire (Only applicable for Occupational Medicine) (Blaze Health standard).
• Current driver's license in the state of residency with an acceptable driving record (Only applicable for Occupational Medicine) (Blaze Health standard).
• Drug Screen Certification - must obtain certification as administered by Blaze Health AFTER hire (Only applicable for Occupational Medicine) (Blaze Health standard).
